A by election is to be held in the Partick East/Kelvindale ward of Glasgow City Council.
Tony Curtis ceased to be a member of the council on Wednesday December 23rd 2020 following a six month period where he did not attend any meetings of the council. The Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 states that a member of a local authority loses office if they do not attend a meeting at least once in any 6-month period.
The act applies automatically if councillors do not proactively take a decision to accept the member’s absence and the Chief Executive and Returning Officer of the council Annemarie O’Donnell informed him of this in December.
The date of the by election has not yet been set.
Returning Officer Annemarie O’Donnell said: “If you live in Partick East and Kelvindale there is still time for you to register to vote and to register to vote by post in this by election.
“The Scottish parliament elections will be held in May and this is a perfect opportunity to make sure your voice will be heard. To register go to glasgow.gov.uk/registertovote.”
