Fifteen creative projects from Glasgow-based artists and creative organisations are taking place thanks over £359,000 National Lottery funding through Creative Scotland.
The 2021 Glasgow Americana Festival; Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra; a new project from Sonic Bothy; a new artwork commission for Govanhill Baths and a new album from Glasgow-based band The Joy Hotel are among 44 projects being supported across the country sharing £903,734 of funding.
Three ambitious and unique art works including a large-scale hand-crafted mosaic from artist from Nathan Coley will be incorporated in the redevelopment of Govanhill Baths. The Baths are due to reopen as a community-led wellbeing centre in summer 2022.
Alex Wilde, Chair of Govanhill Baths Community Trust said: “Creativity has always been key in the campaign to save Govanhill Baths and we are excited that because of this award, permanent artworks can be commissioned to help us celebrate that legacy and continue our commitment to art in the community for the community.”
The 15th annual Glasgow Americana festival (GA) will take place over five days, from Wednesday 29th September to Sunday 3rd October 2021. The festival will take place at various venues across the city, and full venue and ticket information is available at: www.glasgowamericana.com.
Festival director Kevin Morris said: “The fact that a festival like Glasgow Americana can still exist, in what has been such a strange time for musicians, venues and promoters alike makes me happy. I would also like to thank Creative Scotland for their continued support in allowing the festival to go ahead.”
Finally, Sonic Bothy’s new project The Resonance Is Joy, will take place between September 2021 and November 2022, exploring new practice and featuring online, offline and blended activity to reduce physical and mental health barriers in the early days of a return to in-person sessions.
