Glasgow Bus Partnership has expressed it’s delight at Scottish Government backing for bus services.

Micheal Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity today announced a £500m Bus Partnership Fund for infrastructure that will give priority to buses across Scotland.

Glasgow, which formed its partnership in 2018, is now gearing up to claim a share of the fund for measures that will support bus travel in and around the city.

Councillor Anna Richardson, City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction, said: “Everyone at the Glasgow Bus Partnership is delighted with the Cabinet Secretary’s announcement that the Government is backing bus partnerships financially.

“Bus transport is vital to Glasgow and the city has been a pioneer in this area, establishing a bus partnership before the new transport legislation was passed.

“We are confident that the groundwork that’s been completed in Glasgow will help us to secure some of the funding package that’s been announced.

“We will be very busy over the coming months making sure that we produce a credible bid that is transformative for public transport in the city.

“Any investment in our bus network will help the bus to remain a positive choice for passengers as part of a more sustainable transport system for the city, support economic growth and help tackle inequality.”

Glasgow Bus Partnership is formed in line with measures within the new Transport legislation and comprises representation from Glasgow City Council, Strathclyde Passenger Transport, First Bus, McGill’s Buses,Stagecoach and West Coast Motors.
