Glasgow City Council today (23 February) approved £15.68million in Community Growth Funding for the creation of a new community hub at James Lindsay Park in Baillieston.

This funding was secured through developer contributions secured from the development of the Baillieston Broomhouse Carmyle Community Growth Area (CGA), with this funding delivered through Section 75 legal agreements between the council and the developers linked to planning applications within the CGA boundary.

This is one of three such CGAs in Glasgow, with the others being at Robroyston and Easterhouse / Gartloch.

These contributions are to be allocated to create community-supporting infrastructure, and the proposed community hub will feature arts, community and sports activities, as well as a library.

Intensive community consultation on the hub – which saw over 1,000 responses when developed proposals were presented in 2021, with these proposals based on previous engagement – have taken place to gather the views of local people on what they would want from the facility.

Further community consultation will help guide the final design of the hub.

The Baillieston Community Hub will be operated by Glasgow Life on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Neighbourhood Assets and Services at Glasgow City Council, said: “This is a momentous day in the work towards delivering a much-needed community hub for Baillieston.  The creation of this facility will serve the people of the area, who have shown great interest in the proposals for the hub and a huge amount of credit needs to be given to ex-councillor, Bailie Ballantyne, for her dogged determination to get us to this point.”
