Best Gyms in Glasgow 2026

Glasgow has gyms at every price point. From budget chains where you’ll pay less than a couple of pints a month, to premium health clubs with pools and saunas, to specialist CrossFit boxes that’ll make you question your life choices. Here’s the honest breakdown.

1. PureGym

The biggest budget chain in Glasgow with locations all over the city. 24-hour access, no contract, and prices that won’t make you wince. The equipment is decent and they keep adding new kit. The downside is they’re busy at peak times and you won’t get any personal attention.

Locations: Bath Street, Hope Street, Charing Cross, Shawlands, Clydebank, Rutherglen, Milngavie, and more. Price: From £14.99 to £23.99 per month depending on location. No joining fee on most deals. Best for: Folk who just want to turn up, do their workout, and leave without fuss.

Shawlands has a dedicated women’s workout space if that matters to you. Clydebank is the cheapest at £14.99. The city centre ones are always rammed between 5pm and 8pm.

2. The Gym Group

Very similar to PureGym in price and setup. 24-hour access, no contract, decent kit. They’ve got seven locations across Glasgow so chances are there’s one near you. Slightly newer equipment in some locations compared to PureGym.

Locations: Glasgow City, West End, South, Quay, Bothwell Street, Forge, Anniesland. Price: From £15.99 to £18.99 per month plus £10 joining fee. Best for: Same as PureGym, pick whichever is closer to your house.

The honest truth is there’s not much between PureGym and The Gym Group. Pick based on location and whichever one isn’t as busy at your preferred time.

3. Glasgow Club (Council Gyms)

The council-run option and there’s a lot to be said for it. Glasgow Club membership gets you into gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, and sports facilities across the city. Tollcross swimming pool, Kelvin Hall, Emirates Arena. The kit isn’t always the newest but the access is unbeatable.

Locations: Over 30 venues across Glasgow. Price: FitClub membership £29 per month for full gym and classes access. Concession rates from £12. Best for: Folk who want variety. Swim one day, gym the next, badminton at the weekend.

The swimming pool access alone makes this worth considering. You’re basically getting gym plus pool plus sports halls for less than most premium gyms charge for just the gym. The Kelvin Hall facility is particularly good and the Emirates Arena is proper world class.

4. Village Hotel Gym

The premium option without the eye-watering David Lloyd prices. Pool, sauna, steam room, gym, and classes. The facilities are properly nice and it’s noticeably less crowded than the budget chains. The pool is the main selling point here.

Where: 7 Festival Gate, Pacific Quay. Price: Flexible membership from £46 per month. 12-month contract from £35.75 per month. Best for: Folk who want a pool and sauna and are willing to pay a bit more for a quieter, cleaner experience.

It’s a proper health club feel. If the budget gyms feel too cramped or too busy, this is the obvious step up. The pool is the game changer. Being able to swim after a weights session makes the extra cost worth it for a lot of folk.

5. CrossFit Glasgow

One of the oldest CrossFit affiliates in Europe. 10,000 square feet of space beneath the train line in the city centre. Over 14 classes a day. The programming is solid and the coaching is genuinely good. Recently had 57 athletes qualify for the 2026 CrossFit Quarterfinals, which tells you about the standard.

Where: City centre, beneath the train line. Price: Around £100 to £130 per month. Introductory courses available for beginners. Best for: Folk who want structured coaching, community, and to be pushed harder than they’d push themselves.

CrossFit isn’t for everyone and it’s not cheap. But if you want accountability and a community that’ll notice when you don’t show up, nothing else comes close. The intro course is essential if you’re new.

6. F45 Glasgow West End

45-minute group training sessions that mix cardio and strength. The workouts change daily so you never do the same thing twice. It’s high energy, the music is loud, and the trainers are encouraging without being annoying. Good option if you need external motivation to actually work hard.

Where: 14 Vinicombe Street, West End. Price: Around £130 to £160 per month depending on package. Best for: Folk who get bored doing the same routine and want someone else to plan their workout.

Like CrossFit, you’re paying for the coaching and community. If you’ll actually go three or four times a week, the per-session cost works out reasonable. If you’ll go once a month, save your money.

7. CrossFit MTN, Castlemilk

If CrossFit Glasgow’s city centre location doesn’t suit, CrossFit MTN in south Glasgow is a solid alternative. Smaller and more personal. Expert-led group training for all levels with a strong emphasis on beginners being welcome.

Where: Castlemilk, south Glasgow. Price: Around £90 to £120 per month. Best for: Southside residents who want CrossFit without the trek into town.

8. Everyday Athlete, Port Dundas

CrossFit-style training plus Muay Thai and boxing classes. Free on-site parking, which is a rarity for a Glasgow gym. Good option if you want to mix up weights and martial arts in the same membership.

Where: Port Dundas. Price: Around £80 to £110 per month. Best for: Folk who want combat sports alongside their strength training.

9. The Free Option: Outdoor Training

Glasgow has brilliant outdoor spaces for free workouts. Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow Green, and Pollok Country Park all have enough hills, paths, and space for bodyweight training, running, and circuits. Cathkin Braes for trail running. The Kelvin Walkway for long runs.

Where: Everywhere. Price: Free. Best for: Folk who’d rather be outside and don’t need machines.

Seriously. A pair of running shoes and a park is all some folk need. Glasgow has no shortage of green space. The Kelvin Walkway is one of the best running routes in any UK city. Cathkin Braes will test your legs on the hills. And Pollok Park gives you 6 miles of trails surrounded by trees.

  • Village Hotel: £35.75 to £46/month (pool, sauna)

Final Thoughts

There’s no best gym for everyone. If you just want kit and 24-hour access, PureGym or The Gym Group will do the job for under £20 a month. If you want coaching and community, CrossFit or F45 will cost more but you’ll probably show up more consistently. If you want a pool, Glasgow Club at £29 is genuinely hard to beat for value.

The most important thing is picking a gym you’ll actually go to. A £15 membership you use four times a week beats a £150 membership you use once a month. Every time. Most of these places offer day passes or free trials. Try before you commit and see which one feels right for you.
