Downpour drenches Commonwealth opening ceremony but can’t rain on Gold Coast parade

AND everybody thought the weather might rain on Glasgow’s parade four years back. The Gold Coast is famed as Australia’s Sunshine State but that seemed a misnomer as the 21st Commonwealth Games got under way yesterday amid a torrential downpour which left everybody in attendance decidedly drookit.
