Glasgow Ranks as Second Most Dangerous City in Scotland.

Glasgow has recently been identified as the second most perilous city to reside in Scotland, following a comprehensive analysis of crime statistics. The study, conducted by Churchill Support Services, delved into the latest data provided by the Scottish Government Statistics website for the period of July 2021 to June 2022.

The researchers examined crime rates across various local authorities, focusing on the number of crimes per 10,000 residents. Glasgow City emerged with a startling figure of 1,228 crimes per 10,000 people, placing it squarely as the second most dangerous city in the nation.

A closer look at the data reveals that Glasgow has the second highest rate of violent crime, as well as the highest number of individuals prosecuted for drug-related offenses and incidents of antisocial conduct.

Despite Glasgow’s concerning statistics, Dundee surpassed it as the most hazardous place in Scotland, registering 1,270 crimes per 10,000 inhabitants. The City of Discovery led by a significant margin, topping the charts in categories such as violent crime, theft, and sexual assault.

Other areas joining Glasgow and Dundee in the top 10 list of most dangerous cities include Perth and Kinross, North Lanarkshire, Clackmannanshire, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh.

On a more positive note, experts discovered that crime rates in Scotland have been on a steady decline over the past two decades. The peak of criminal activity occurred between 2004 and 2005, with a staggering 511,834 reported crimes in a single year. However, the most recent figures from 2021 to 2022 indicate a significant reduction, with only 286,464 reported crimes during that time frame.

In conclusion, while Glasgow’s position as the second most hazardous city in Scotland is disconcerting, the overall declining trend in crime rates across the country offers a glimmer of hope for a safer future.
