Major Water Main Break in Glasgow: Thousands of Residents Face Water Supply Disruptions

Massive Water Outage in Glasgow Following a Burst Water Main, Thousands of Homes Affected.

Homes Across Glasgow Without Water

Glasgow has experienced a significant water outage after a 36-inch water main ruptured on Crow Road, Anniesland. This incident has left thousands of homes without water in various parts of the city, specifically in the G1, G2, G3, G4, G12, G13, G20, G51 areas, as well as G62 in Milngavie. Scottish Water confirmed that their technicians are on-site, addressing the major disruption since Friday morning.

The water main break has adversely impacted residents with postcodes G1, G2, G3, G4, G12, G13, G20, G51 in Glasgow, and G62 in Milngavie. Motorists have also been alerted to anticipate delays due to the significant flooding and excess surface water on Crow Road.

According to a Traffcom update, Bearsden Road has been narrowed to one lane near Anniesland Cross due to an additional water burst. Road users are advised to exercise caution when approaching the Anniesland Cross Junction because of the substantial surface water in the area. To facilitate the urgent water main repairs by Scottish Water, Crow Road at Great Western Road will be closed southbound for approximately 400 meters, and delays are expected.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water remarked, “Scottish Water is informing customers in parts of central, western, and southwestern Glasgow of a burst water main that could impact normal water supplies.” The burst water main, located on Crow Road, Anniesland, near its intersection with Fulton Street, has caused localized flooding.

The water main break may temporarily result in low water pressure or loss of regular water supply for properties in areas such as the city center, West End, Partick, Anniesland, and Govan.

Engineers are striving to restore the affected water supplies by implementing a backfeed (or re-zoning the local network) and repairing the rupture as swiftly as possible. “We apologize for any inconvenience and express our gratitude to the affected customers for their patience and understanding,” the spokesperson added.
