Primary One Enrolment open to Glasgow’s families

Parents and carers of children who are due to start Primary One at the beginning of the new school term in August 2021 are being encouraged to register their child online during the annual school registration week from Monday 2 November to Friday 6 November.

The school year is anything but normal with the ongoing global health pandemic but it’s vitally important that families follow the normal procedures to secure a P1 place in Glasgow schools for children who turn 5 years of age between 1 March 2021 and 28 February 2022.

The process has been successfully run online for the last four years with on average almost 6,000 children registered in this way for the school of their choice.

Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills and Early Years knows how challenging the last eight months have been but says that the P1 registration is a chance to look forward to a major milestone in a child’s life.

He said today: “There’s been very little to look forward to over the last few months but ask any parent what’s a major step in their child’s development and many will answer that it’s the beginning of their school journey.

“This year the P1 enrolment can be viewed as a positive look ahead to next year when hopefully we will be in a much better place with the virus.  We have to hope that August 2021 will see a fresh beginning for our wee ones.

“Enrolment itself has never been an easier process and can be done from the comfort of your home – like many things we have become used to during the pandemic.

“Our city prides itself in having local schools for local children but our families also have the right to apply for a placing request to any school in the city.  However they should enrol at their catchment school in the first instance before applying for a placing request.”

Parents and carers will be notified by February 2021 to confirm their child’s place and schools will be in touch with families to attend open days and school visits before the end of the school term.
