Shoppers in Glasgow can buy more of their favourite fashion, homeware, and beauty products whilst doing good for the planet at Buchanan Galleries.

A number of retailers at Buchanan Galleries have launched recycling initiatives designed to help visitors become more sustainably savvy shoppers and dispose of their empty and unwanted items properly whilst reaping some great rewards.

John Lewis and Partners

High-end department store, John Lewis & Partners, launched BeautyCycle in 2019 to eliminate beauty waste by encouraging shoppers to recycle “empties” for them to be turned into new beauty products or materials used to build things such as children’s playgrounds.

The BeautyCycle scheme, exclusive to My John Lewis members, allows the beauty-obsessed to claim £5 off their next beauty purchase simply by returning five or more clean and empty beauty products and showing their My John Lewis card.

Similarly, FashionCycle is the brand’s way of taking your pre-loved clothing to be resold or recycled in return of money off your next fashion or home purchase. The scheme was set up to help combat the detrimental effects that textile waste has on the environment and help reduce the volume of clothing sent to landfills each year by offering shoppers a solution to deal with their unwanted garments.

Isle of Skye Candle Company

Lovers of all things home and interiors can benefit from a generous discount at Isle of Skye Candle Company simply by returning any empty glass from all their candle and diffusers ranges.

The Scottish native launched the scheme to encourage customers to reuse and recycle in exchange for rewards, and the best part is the more you bring back the bigger the discount!

Monki

After a wardrobe declutter why not head to Fashion giantMonki, who along with its partner I:CO, will recycle or resell your unwanted clothes and textiles to help minimise waste and give them a new lease of life.

Simply hand in garments and textiles from any brand, such as tops, skirts, and dresses as well as bed sheets and towels into the Buchanan Galleries store to receive a 10% voucher for your next purchase*.

*Limited to two bags per visit, 10% off voucher valid for 6 months.

Perfume shop

Before you’re tempted to throw away your empty perfume bottles into your regular household waste, pop them to one side and take them to the Perfume Shop which will recycle your bottles in exchange for a 10% off voucher on your next purchase.

Hint: With the festive season quickly approaching, you could use your 10% discount to buy loved ones their favourite fragrance.

Schuh

Do your kids outgrow their shoes at a lightning speed or do your shoes just no longer suit your style? When they are no longer fit for purpose, shoes and trainers are often wrongly chucked into the bin and eventually end up in harmful landfill sites.

To help minimise waste, and reap the rewards, take your old worn pairs of kicks to Schuh to be carefully recycled and in turn you will benefit from £5 off your next new pair as a thank you.

Boots

Health and beauty favourites, Boots has given its customers the chance to feel good about themselves, do good for the planet and get some treats along the way, thanks to their recycling scheme.

Boots Advantage Card holders can simply take their empty beauty, health and wellness products to the Buchanan Galleries branch and pop them into a recycling point found in-store, then scan the QR code and receive 500 Boots Advantage Card points when they spend £10 or more.

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Manager for Buchanan Galleries, said “As a shopping centre, we know the impact that some products can have on our environment, which is why it’s important that our customers are aware of the various recycling options available here at Buchanan Galleries.

“We’re proud to have a multitude of fashion, home and beauty brands with innovative recycling schemes and initiatives that encourage shoppers to think more consciously how they dispose of their empty or unwanted products whilst getting some great benefits along the way!”
