Time is running out to spend Loves Local gift cards in Glasgow, where almost 85,000 households were eligible to receive these £105 cards last year.

Around £729,000 remains to be spent by card holders in eligible businesses. Cards remain valid for 12 months after activation.

Many of these gift cards were activated in August 2022, meaning that a lot of households in Glasgow may have less than two months in which to spend the remaining balance.

These cards can be used at 1600 sites in Glasgow, with 900 businesses of all sizes registered. Information on registered businesses where the card can be used is available at: https://scotlandgiftslocal.com/where-to-spend/.

Over £7,487,000 has been spent in businesses in the city through the gift card scheme so far.

The funding for the scheme (the Scotland Loves Local campaign) came from the Scottish Government’s £80million Covid Recovery Fund.

The Scotland Loves Local campaign encourages people in Scotland to think local first and support businesses on their local high streets. Businesses can still register for the scheme at https://scotlandgiftslocal.com/business-sign-up/.

Card balances can be found at: https://getmybalance.com/. Lost cards cannot be replaced.

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “The Loves Local gift cards were successful in both supporting businesses in the city as they recovered from the pandemic and helping low-income Glasgow households during the cost-of-living crisis. There is still time for households and businesses to benefit from this scheme, so those with a card should check their balance and businesses can still register.”
