Imminent Closure of Twin Nurseries in Lanarkshire.
In an unexpected development, Lanarkshire is set to see the closure of two prominent nurseries. New College Lanarkshire (NCL), one of the key educational institutions in the region, has decided to cease operations at its nurseries located in Coatbridge and Cumbernauld.
The news was disseminated among staff members earlier this week, amid an emerging economic crisis within NCL. This predicament is attributed to a significant funding reduction, translating to an approximate fiscal cut of £4.3 million in the upcoming financial year.
Over the past trio of years, a surplus funding of over £1 million has been injected by the college to sustain the nursery services. However, the recent financial turbulence has incapacitated the college’s capacity to continue supporting at this level. Consequently, the decision to conclude operations by the end of the ongoing term was made by the board.
Both nurseries have been bastions of quality childcare and parental support for numerous years. The board has expressed immense gratitude towards the committed staff for their priceless contribution to nurturing and educating the region’s young minds.
Unfortunately, the fiscal exigency induced by the funding cut is prohibitive for the college to maintain these nurseries. The college’s paramount commitment is to foster positive outcomes for their students, which has, unfortunately, led to this tough decision.
In the wake of these closures, all staff members at the nurseries will be presented with opportunities to either shift within the larger college ecosystem or opt for voluntary severance. Additionally, the college has also committed to extending support to affected parents and guardians, ensuring a smoother transition during this challenging time.
