Today marks World Outlander Day, an event dedicated to celebrating the highly popular fantasy drama ‘Outlander’, which is based on the novels written by Diana Gabaldon. For a decade now, the Starz production has gathered an immense global viewership.

Each year on June 1, fans worldwide express their admiration for the historical saga by sharing their favourite moments, quotes, and clips. The show features some truly touching and romantic scenes between the main characters Jamie (acted by Sam Heughan) and Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe), along with intense battles and dashes of comic relief.

As passionate followers of the show ourselves, we have selected some of our most beloved episodes from the earlier seasons, back when the destined lovers were still in Scotland, specifically Glasgow.

Jamie and Claire`s Unforgettable First Encounter

Claire finds herself unexpectedly transported two centuries back in time after traversing through the Druid stone circle at Craigh Na Dun. Claire, who was enjoying her second honeymoon after World War 2’s end, is suddenly thrown amidst a historical uprising.

She stumbles upon a man who strongly resembles her husband Frank but soon discovers it’s only Frank’s malicious ancestor, ‘Black Jack’ Randall, who attempts to capture her.

Claire’s life takes a turn for the better when a young Highland warrior named Jamie comes to her rescue. The rest, as they say, is history after he utters the iconic words, “You’re coming with me.”

The shinty showcase

Shinty is a game believed to have been played in Glasgow, and throughout Scotland, for hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years. It’s likely that clansmen in the 1700s would have played it – although its modern-day version is probably less violent.

Jamie and his uncle Dougal, played by Graham McTavish, took centre stage during a shinty match in the first season with a heated confrontation.

Jamie speaking Gaelic to Jenny’s baby

The series showcases Jamie’s softer side on numerous occasions, showing him to be more than a warrior. Among the fan-favourite moments is when Claire catches Jamie speaking Gaelic to his sister Jenny’s newborn baby. The doting uncle tells his little niece that her duty is “to grow strong and happy”.

The Blood Vow

The lovers tie their hands and speak a Blood Vow in Gaelic in a representation of ancient Celtic wedding rituals. The heartwarming oath goes as follows:

“You are Blood of my Blood, and Bone of my Bone. I give you my Body, that we Two might be One. I give you my Spirit, ’til our Life shall be Done.”

Jamie’s Iconic Battle with Black Jack at Culloden

Culloden is renowned as one of Scotland’s most infamous battles. Jamie, foreseeing his imminent death, sends a pregnant Claire back through the stones to her own era. A memorable scene portrays Jamie and his clan charging towards the enemy lines, leading him to a fierce clash with Black Jack.

Despite the odds, Jamie survives the battle, and after two long decades, Claire dares to return for her love, and they continue their timeless tale together.
