A young Scottish mother has detailed the emotional instance where she was finally able to meet her biological father and grandparents for the first time.
Megan Ellis, a resident of Drumchapel, Glasgow, cherished the dream of meeting her father, Alistair Gillespie (40), since she discovered his identity when she was just eight.
The duo had the opportunity to meet face to face after more than ten years. This heartwarming moment, wherein Megan (22) is welcomed by her grandparents before she sees her father, was captured in a moving video.
Despite communicating with her father during her teens over messages, circumstances forced them to stop abruptly due to Alistair’s personal relationship complexities.
However, after the birth of her son, Ross Lennox, who is now three, Megan decided to reconnect with her father as she wanted her son to ‘enjoy a full family environment’.
Alistair, who is presently jobless, unfortunately suffered a brain injury leading to memory loss following an attempted suicide.
In order to confirm Megan as his child, both undertook a DNA test, the result of which confirmed the blood-tie.
Megan also met her extended family members including her grandparents, sisters, and aunt.
She shared her thoughts about her inspiration stating, “Growing up, I didn’t know who my father was. I had continually searched for information about him from the age of eight, or perhaps even younger.”
“I’ve spent my whole life trying to seek answers – it’s something I always wanted.
“After his message to my mom, I was finally able to speak with him. We would communicate, and then not for weeks or even months.”
“Unfortunately, due to his personal circumstances, I lost contact with him.”
She further elaborated that they initially contacted each other on Facebook in 2017, when Megan was approximately 15.
Megan continued, “We started speaking regularly and during this course, I found out I had two sisters.”
“Due to uncontrollable situations, we lost contact. He was going through a tough time and was not in a position to maintain regular contact, at least that’s what I believe.”
“We communicated sporadically and afterwards there was complete silence.”
“When I was pregnant with my son, I decided to contact his mother (my grandmother) and revealed that I was her granddaughter. I wanted my son to experience a complete family. I was as desirous of his companionship as he was for mine.”
“While chatting, I discovered that my father had attempted suicide and had suffered a brain injury causing loss of memory.”
“Even though we both knew that a DNA test was not required, we decided to get one to ensure our biological relationship. The result revealed a match.”
