Glasgow City Council is calling on organisations, third sector and voluntary groups across the city to help deliver a range of school holiday programmes that include free meals and healthy snacks for every nursery, primary and secondary school pupil who wish to take part in next year’s Children’s Holiday Food Programme (CHFP).

Thousands of young people across the city have enjoyed fresh food, nutritious meals and activities during school holidays thanks to the Glasgow Children’s Holiday Food Programme which was introduced in 2018 to help address poverty in the city.

The programme is funded by Glasgow City Council and delivered by charities, third sector organisations and community groups.

The council is inviting organisations to apply for a slice of the £2m funding to deliver next year’s programme.

The CHFP runs during the Spring, Summer, October and February school holidays.  Organisations provide a variation of meals and, depending on the project and activities, a mixture of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are served.

Glasgow’s City Treasurer, Councillor Ricky Bell, is delighted to see the programme continue.

Councillor Bell said: “The Children’s Holiday Food Programme has gone from strength to strength and brings with it many other benefits for children and their families.

“We remain committed to working with third sector organisations to deliver this invaluable programme. It’s part of our on-going work to tackle food poverty and inequality; where people cannot afford or don’t have access to nutritious food.

“We appreciate many organisations were not able to deliver their planned programme of indoor and outdoor activities due to the pandemic however, the majority were able to make use of the council funding to deliver essential food parcels and items to families.”

Organisations have until Friday, 23 October to apply.
