Electric Car Warning: Carnoustie Man Feels Conned and Urges Drivers to Think Twice Before Making the Switch

Electric car troubles lead to £10k loss and restricted range for Kinloch Arms Hotel manager

Electric cars are the future, or so we’ve been told. They promise a cleaner, greener alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles, which are blamed for contributing to air pollution and climate change. But one Scottish hotel manager has had a very different experience with his electric car, and he’s warning others to think twice before making the switch.

Rob Alcock, the boss of the Kinloch Arms Hotel in Carnoustie, bought an electric car just four months ago, hoping to do his part for the environment. But instead of enjoying a guilt-free drive, he’s had nothing but trouble. For starters, the car’s value has dropped by almost a third, leaving him feeling “conned”. He’s lost over £10,000 in just a few months, and he can’t understand how an electric car can depreciate so quickly.

But, what about range?

Despite the car’s advertised range of 209 miles, Alcock claims that he’s never managed to get more than 120 miles on a single charge. This has severely restricted how far he can travel, and made him nervous about taking long journeys. To make matters worse, he’s had to turn off the heating in order to maintain the battery, making for a very uncomfortable driving experience.

So, what’s the solution? Alcock has decided to trade in his electric car for a diesel model, and he’s urging others to think twice before investing in the technology. He believes that electric cars simply aren’t practical yet, and that they cost too much money for what they offer. He’s warning drivers to be wary of the hype, and to consider the practicalities of owning an electric car before taking the plunge.

Of course, this cautionary tale doesn’t mean that electric cars are a lost cause. They still have the potential to revolutionize the way we travel, and to help us achieve a more sustainable future. But for now, it seems that we still have a long way to go before they become a viable option for all drivers. Until then, it’s worth taking Rob Alcock’s advice and thinking twice before investing in an electric car.
