The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that the new rates for State Pension and benefits payments will come into effect from April 8, 2024. The increase will see Pensions benefit from a rise of 8.5 per cent, under the Triple Lock policy, and most working age and disability benefits will be raised in alignment with the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate of 6.7 per cent.

Increases in Additional State Pension payments will also be in line with the 6.7 per cent CPI figure. DWP has commenced sending out annual uprating letters to State Pension recipients, informing them of the adjustments to their future payments post-uprating. Beneficiaries will also receive similar notifications.

The updated rates, which encompass payments managed by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) such as Tax Credits and Child Benefit, as well as devolved benefits administered by Social Security Scotland, will also be raised by 6.7 per cent from April. These include Adult and Child Disability Payment.

It’s crucial to note that while the revised payment rates get implemented at the start of April, the majority of people won’t notice the full, new amount until early May. This delay is due to benefits typically being paid in arrears, and the initial payment after the uprating tends to be a blend of the old and new rates. Moreover, while the Pension Credit income threshold will increase from April 8, the Benefit Cap will remain untouched.
