Strike Disruption Looms Over Glasgow Airport Due to Salary Conflict.
A labor union has alerted travelers to possible disruptions at Glasgow Airport as a result of an ongoing pay dispute. Unite, the union in question, announced on April 19 that members of ICTS Central Search had turned down a pay proposal.
About 250 ICTS employees stationed at Glasgow Airport voted overwhelmingly, with 94% against a 5% pay raise, which the union argues amounts to a significant decrease in real terms. These workers are responsible for various essential tasks, including mobile patrols, controlling access points, screening deliveries, and coordinating with emergency services at the airport.
Unite has declared its readiness to proceed with an industrial action ballot if the company fails to present a better pay offer. Pat McIlvogue, Unite Regional Industrial Officer, stated: “Roughly 250 ICTS Central Search employees have decisively rejected an inadequate pay proposal, which translates to a considerable pay reduction in real terms.”
McIlvogue added that Glasgow Airport could face a tumultuous summer if the issue isn’t resolved, as the facility would struggle to operate safely and effectively without these critical staff members. “We urge ICTS to pay heed to this warning before the conflict potentially escalates to strike action,” he said.
An ICTS spokesperson responded by saying, “Constructive salary negotiations with our staff at Glasgow Airport are in progress.” They further explained that the company had presented pay proposals offering increases ranging from 14.0% to 26.2% over the past two years. The spokesperson also assured the public that passenger security remains their top priority and that no disruptions would occur.
