New Highway Code Regulations to Impact Glasgow Drivers with Potential £100 Fuel Penalty.

Motorists across the United Kingdom, including those in Glasgow, are urged to stay informed about imminent changes to the Highway Code. These adjustments could result in fines and penalty points on their licences if they fail to comply with the updated regulations.

The Highway Code will soon implement these modifications, introducing new driving laws that affect electric car parking fines, additional clean air zones, and other revisions. Drivers who deplete their fuel supply and consequently obstruct traffic may face a fine of up to £100 and penalty points on their licences. This rule now applies to electric vehicles as well.

The AA reported that over 10,500 breakdowns in the previous year were attributed to drivers of electric cars running out of fuel or charge. This phenomenon is believed to be the result of drivers postponing refuelling due to soaring fuel prices amidst the cost of living crisis, as reported by the Daily Record.

Moreover, stricter regulations regarding mobile phone usage while driving are now in effect. Previously, using a mobile phone while driving could result in a fine of up to £200 and six penalty points on the offender’s licence. Under the new, more stringent rules, it is now entirely illegal to use mobile phones or any other electronic devices, such as Sat Navs or tablets, while driving.

Seb Goldin, CEO of RED Driver Training, previously stated, “We know that people of all ages rely on the freedom that driving provides, and graduated driving licensing risks placing restrictions on this. However, data shows that in countries where graduated driving licensing is in effect, it is being received well and, in an environment where incidents on our roads are commonplace, taking steps to reduce the risks of death and serious injuries is a protocol we support. Road safety remains our ultimate concern, and this probationary period for drivers who are more likely to be involved in an incident allows us to prioritize this even further.”
