Princess Anne, famous for her quick wit, humorously responded to a youngster’s comment that she didn’t seem quite like a princess at an RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) gathering a few years ago. The princess reportedly retorted that she was pleased she didn’t fit the traditional princely mould.
On “The Royals with Roya and Kate” podcast, the incident was narrated shortly after Princess Anne got back to her royal duties from the setback of a concussion due to a horse ride incident. One of the podcast’s hosts mentioned this witty exchange between a young child and Princess Anne during a children’s event.
The narrator explained, “A highly placed RDA official told me about Princess Anne attending a children’s RDA event. We work diligently with these brave children dealing with various learning disabilities, ranging from different autism levels to physical incapacities. One of the little girls participating in the event got the opportunity to meet Princess Anne. She showed her frankness by saying, ‘You don’t look like a princess.’”
Princess Anne’s response was just as spontaneous, “I’m glad I don’t.” Her brilliant comeback earned her peals of laughter from those present at the event. She simply takes things in her stride, they added.
This Royal podcast discussion followed after Princess Anne began attending to her Royal duties again after an unfortunate horse riding accident earlier in the year, which resulted in her suffering a concussion, as reported by The Express.
At a recent RDA event in Gloucestershire, Princess Anne spoke about her trying times and shared candidly that she doesn’t recall much about her spill on June 23.
Vega Lozano, Chair of RDA UK, expressed her admiration of Princess Anne, stating that her visit to the event after the abrupt accident was an enormous honor for the organization.
Anne’s genuine admission upon her arrival was shared by Lozano, “The first thing she said after getting out of the car was, ‘I can’t remember a single thing about it.’ Having her presence here is massively motivating and inspiring for all.”
Michael Bishop, the Chief Executive of the RDA, extended a warm welcome to the princess, expressing, “We are thrilled to welcome The Princess Royal to our flagship event, the RDA National Championships, where we are celebrating our 55th anniversary. It delights us to see her join our celebration on her return to royal duties.”
Bishop underscored Anne’s meaningful relationship with the RDA, “As our organization’s president, The Princess holds a special place in the hearts of the entire RDA community. Over five decades, she has celebrated many significant milestones with us and provided immeasurable support.”
He further shared about her lively participation at the event, “Seeing the princess again in such good spirit was lovely. She engaged warmly with all the volunteers and participants and even shared a few jests.”
Adding to that, Bishop mentioned, “She seemed very alert and familiar with many of the volunteers as she had met them before.”
