An innovative aerospace discovery centre in Scotland is scheduled to acquire £300,000 through governmental funding.

The initiative, based in Kinross, is one amongst four potential projects to divide a total funding of nearly £1 million, provided by the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund. The core objective of this new centre is to inspire the young populace to engage in careers relating to the aerospace sector, primarily in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields once it commences operation.

The endeavour will culminate at the Aero Space Scientific Education Trust’s Station House in Kinross, a landmark opened by the Princess Royal in 1985. Other approved financial awards include £256,793 assigned to establish a community net-zero hub in Glasgow— a sum of £253,032 allotted for the transition of a Stirling-based shop into community ownership, and an additional £183,000 awarded in Aberdeenshire to convert Laurencekirk Community Centre into an expansive community hub.

The Community Ownership Fund aims to empower people residing in towns and cities within the UK. This includes the creation and revitalisation of valued institutions like museums, pubs and sports clubs geared to be managed by the community and for the community. To date, the fund has allocated £6.2 million to 28 initiatives in Scotland— a portion of the 195 projects currently backed across the UK.

Malcolm Offord, UK Government Minister for Scotland, stated: “We’re delighted to announce that an additional four Scottish projects are dividing almost £1 million from the UK Government Community Ownership Fund. Thanks to the fund, we’re currently sustaining 28 community groups across Scotland, helping to invigorate their living, working, and recreational areas to the sum of nearly £6.2 million.”

“In total, we’re investing more than £2.4 billion directly in manifold projects throughout Scotland, effectively aiding in boosting our economy and leveling up the country.”

Jacob Young, Minister for Levelling Up, supplemented: “Our primary focus lies in fostering communities and providing opportunities across the country, which is precisely why we’re investing £12.3 million to safeguard the future of much-loved community institutions.”

“These establishments, ranging from local pubs to historic railway lines, are the bedrock upon which the community exists and their preservation is vital in uplifting communities.”

The Community Ownership Fund has reopened for bids and will proceed to accept applications until October 11.
