Glasgow City Council Greenlights Negotiation for Former Care Home Sale to Housing Association
On April 6, Glasgow City Council gave its provisional approval to resume negotiations for the off-market sale of the former Davislea care home in Drumoyne to Linthouse Housing Association. The sale aims to facilitate the construction of new affordable homes, provided a feasibility study confirms the site’s viability.
The 1.84-acre property at 100 Mallaig Road, which neighbors the Mallaig Road Day Care Centre, was declared surplus in 2019. It is among the 23 sites in Glasgow recommended for disposal to registered social landlords within the city.
As part of the negotiation terms, Linthouse Housing Association can only use the land for the construction of affordable housing. Overage clauses will be incorporated to safeguard the council’s interests should any changes in land use occur in the future.
The sale negotiation of the former care home was previously put on hold to explore joint or alternative uses for the site. Upon agreement on terms and conditions, the final committee will consider and approve the site sale.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Neighborhood Services and Assets at Glasgow City Council, stated, “The potential development of this site in Drumoyne demonstrates the council’s dedication to collaborating with the city’s social landlords in promoting the construction of more affordable homes in Glasgow. Negotiations with Linthouse Association will now proceed.”
