New £m Eden Project Dundee given green light by councillors

The official approval has been granted for a fresh venture, the £130 million Eden Project in Dundee. Last night, council representatives convened at the renowned City of Discovery, agreeing upon the planning application at the erstwhile gas works located on East Dock Street. Notably, it is positioned under a mile from Dundee’s V&A.

Various attractions and activities will be featured in this venture, such as expositions, immersive experiences, live music performances, an array of artistic displays, food outlets, and retail spaces. Plans have been put forward to utilise the existing towering brick wall structures to fashion walled gardens. The potential opportunity for creating a novel pedestrian link to the city centre and train station is also under consideration.

Expressing his thrill at the news, Blair Parkin, the Eden Project’s chief experience development officer, commented, “We are overjoyed at the approval of the Dundee City Council.” He regarded this as a crucial step for the project and the outcome of multiple years of concerted efforts by the Eden Project team, adding further, “We are incredibly proud of the work we have done together to bring the project to this stage.”

“We will permit ourselves a brief moment of celebration, but we are fully cognizant of the fact that there remains an enormous amount of work to be done for the realization of Eden Project Dundee. Our subsequent proceedings involve advancing the design, procuring investment and maintaining the delivery of our community programmes in the city.”

John Alexander, the leader of Dundee City Council, echoed similar sentiments. He underlined the Eden Project as a further testament to the city’s ambitious regeneration drive. In his view, it has the potential to lure visitors from wide and far, while also benefiting the fellow citizens of Dundee. He signed off saying, “It was great to witness the remarkable enthusiasm of many locals who played key roles in shaping the proposals approved tonight.”

An exciting development for Dundee and its neighbour Glasgow, this new project promises to bring vibrancy and fresh vigour to the area. So whether you’re from Dundee or Glasgow, there’s no better time to explore what Scotland has to offer.
