Where Is Costco Glasgow?

Glasgow’s Costco is in Springburn, just off the M8 on the north side of the city. The full address is 15 Cobden Road, St Rollox Business Park, G21 1YX. It’s the only Costco warehouse in Glasgow.

A lot of folk search for “Costco Hillington” and there isn’t one. Hillington is the industrial estate out towards Paisley on the south-west side, and people mix the two up because both are big retail and trade parks. If you want Costco, it’s Springburn you’re after, not Hillington.

By car it’s a couple of minutes off the M8 at junction 15. There’s a large free car park on site. If you’re on public transport, Barnhill and Springburn stations are the nearest rail stops, and several bus routes run along Springburn Road. That said, Costco is really a car shop. You’re buying in bulk, so you’ll want the boot.

Costco Glasgow Opening Hours

Costco’s hours change now and then, and Trade members get in earlier than Individual members, so always check the official Costco Glasgow store page for today’s times before you set off.

As a general guide:

  • Trade and Business members: earlier weekday entry, often from around 10am.
  • Individual (Gold Star) members: later weekday entry, usually from around midday.
  • Saturday: typically morning through to early evening.
  • Sunday: shorter hours, usually late morning to late afternoon.

The petrol station and the food court often open and close at slightly different times from the main warehouse, so factor that in if that’s all you’re stopping for.

Costco Membership: Types, Prices and Who Can Join

You can’t just walk in. Costco is a members-only warehouse, so you need a card to shop. There are three main UK memberships. These fees are set nationally and can change, so check costco.co.uk/membership for the current rates.

  • Individual (Gold Star): around £33.60 a year including VAT. For most shoppers.
  • Trade/Business: around £26.40 a year including VAT. For people who own or run a business.
  • Executive: around £74.40 a year including VAT. Adds a 2% reward on most purchases, capped at a few hundred pounds a year, so it pays for itself if you spend enough.

Not everyone is automatically eligible for an Individual membership. You generally qualify if you’re over 18 and either work (or worked) in a qualifying field like the NHS, local government, finance, education, the emergency services, the civil service or the armed forces, or you hold a professional qualification (think accountants, solicitors, doctors, opticians, engineers and the like). Trade membership just needs proof you run a business, such as a VAT certificate or a business bank card.

If you’re weighing up whether it’s worth it, that depends on how much you buy and whether the bulk sizes suit your household. For a wider look at household costs in the city, our cost of living in Glasgow guide is worth a read.

The Petrol Station

Costco Glasgow has its own petrol station on site, and the fuel is usually among the cheapest in the city. The catch is that it’s members only. You pay at the pump with your Costco membership card, so you can’t just pull in off the street for a fill-up the way you would at a supermarket forecourt.

If cheap fuel is the main reason you’re considering membership, do the maths on how often you fill up. For regular drivers the saving can cover a chunk of the membership fee over a year.

What Else Is in the Warehouse

Beyond the usual bulk groceries, household goods, electronics and clothing, the Glasgow warehouse has a few extra services:

  • Food court: the famous cheap hot dogs, pizza and the like.
  • Opticians: eye tests and glasses, registered for NHS Scotland eye examinations.
  • Tyre centre: tyres fitted while you shop.
  • Hearing aid centre: hearing tests and aids.

Worth noting: unlike some Costco warehouses, the Glasgow store doesn’t run a pharmacy, so don’t make the trip for that. Check the official store page if you need to confirm a specific service before travelling.

Is a New Costco Opening in Glasgow?

There’s been talk of a second Costco for Glasgow, but to be clear: nothing is confirmed. Costco’s UK property agent has listed “South Glasgow” among a number of sites it’s actively looking for, as part of a wider UK expansion. That means they want a site in the south of the city. It does not mean one has been bought, granted planning permission, or given an opening date.

One thing to clear up, because it gets muddled online: the “Eastern Avenue” site that Costco acquired is in Gloucester, in the south west of England, not Glasgow. So if you’ve seen that mentioned, it’s a different store entirely.

For now, Springburn is the only Costco in Glasgow. We covered the original expansion story in more detail when it first broke: see our report on Costco’s plans to expand in Glasgow. We’ll update this guide if a south Glasgow store is ever confirmed.
