Area Partnerships Receive Share of Million Pound Fund to Improve Dear Green Place

A £1.5million Parks and Open Space Improvement Fund has been allocated across the city’s 23 Area Partnerships following approval by the City Administration Committee today (Thursday 5 August).

The £1.5million was a one-off additional investment agreed as part of the council budget earlier this year.

Funding ranging between £89k and £42k has now been allocated to the area partnerships which cover all wards in the city.

A report will now be submitted to each Area Partnership in August and September containing a suite of funding options, based on local engagement, including community groups, Friends of groups, resident and elected member enquiries as well as knowledge from officers on the ground. Area Partnerships will also have opportunities to suggest alternative projects for consideration.

Councillor Jennifer Layden, City Convener for Community Empowerment, Equalities and Human Rights, said: “Our citizens have told us the huge value they place on our parks and greenspaces and that they want investment and improvement. That’s why in our budget to help steer Glasgow through Covid recovery, a flagship pledge was fresh investment in our parks with £1.5million earmarked to do just that.

“It’s vital now that communities help shape how the green spaces close to them are enhanced and improved.

“This fund will make sure areas with the greatest need get the most resource although all city-wide wards will benefit.

“Options such as improvements to play areas, new paths, benches or tree planting have come forward, all based on local knowledge, input from community groups and suggestions by elected members.

“Ultimately it will be for each area partnership to decide how their allocations can be best spent and we will work closely with them to maximise the impact of the fund in their area.”
