An intense fire and a concurrent assault in an apartment building are now part of an ongoing police investigation into an outbreak of disorder in Glasgow.
Law enforcement officials have affirmed that the fire and an associated attack at a Heathfield Road property are linked to the chaotic incidents that unfolded on Saturday night.
It was reported yesterday that an officer required medical treatment following unfortunate incidents involving police response units on that night.
A representative from Police Scotland shared: “We are carrying out comprehensive inquiries into the disorder that unfolded in Glasgow, including the episodes that took place.”
“During the incident, we were informed about a fire and an assault at the Heathfield Road flats, and our investigation is currently in its initial phase.”
Comments from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are awaited on this matter.
The police were initially called to address a large crowd gathering at Old Avenue and the situation intensified when the crowd showed resistance to dispersion by the police.
Regrettably, one of the officers was hit by a firework and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The reprehensible actions were strongly condemned by a senior investigator, highlighting them as ‘utterly unacceptable’. He also stated that an extensive search operation is in progress to apprehend those involved.
