Discover Glasgow’s Hidden Gems with Walking Glasgow.

Glasgow is a vibrant city full of history, culture, and architectural wonders. Despite its many attractions, some of Glasgow’s hidden gems can be easily overlooked or forgotten. That’s where Kevin Scott and his Walking Glasgow tours come in. Scott’s free themed walking tours have become increasingly popular, attracting over 4050 followers on Facebook and WhatsApp in less than a year.

Scott’s inspiration for Walking Glasgow came from attending Glasgow Life’s walk programme in June 2022. He quickly realized that many people, including Glasgow residents and visitors, were interested in learning more about the city’s history and culture. Since then, he has hosted group walks for visiting Ukranians, asylum seekers/refugees/mental health groups, and more. He posts most weeks of the year (261 sites), variations of the six walks he hosts, choosing to guesstimate the weather the preceding Friday for the following week.

Walking Glasgow is Scott’s Facebook page, while his website, www.walkingglasgow.com, has become available as his community has grown. Weekly, he posts details of days, times, and meeting points, frequently alternating the walks over different days, evenings, and weekends to allow as many working/retired/visiting people to enjoy what Glasgow has to offer.

The six different walks that Scott offers are:

  1. Tobacco lords/Merchant City- most popular- 2hour around city centre
  2. Medieval /Victorian Glasgow- Trongate, High St, Cathedral & Necropolis
  3. Clyde Bridges -Bells Bridge to Glasgow Green & Peoples Palace
  4. The Buchanan Fifty- 52 architectural beauties of Glasgow’s ‘Style Mile’
  5. Glasgow Canal- Speirs Wharf westwards past Firhill & new Claypots Nature Reserve
  6. Grahamston-Glasgow’s Forgotten Village.

The Grahamston walk has been particularly significant for Scott as he can trace his ancestors back to having an orchard/market garden at the bottom of Hope St (inside Grahamston) at the beginning of the 18th century. The BBC is now wishing to film him for their next series of ‘Inside Central Station.’

Always free to attend, Walking Glasgow has become popular with groups, especially after being asked to offer these walks last September in Glasgow’s Doors Open Days. Scott wanted to give Glasgow people something back, with no commercial gain in it, just to share his interest with other like-minded people. He loves the interaction, banter, and surprising people of what’s still around us!

Scott’s Walking Glasgow tours offer a unique opportunity to discover Glasgow’s hidden gems and learn about its fascinating history and culture. His passion for the city is evident in his dedication to sharing its stories and secrets
