If you're an active user on Instagram, you might’ve recently observed an influx of specific notifications on your account.
Across UK, these alerts titled, “you have an invitation to join @user's live broadcast channel”, has been a cause of confusion considering their sudden surge on social media platforms.
Overwhelmed by the bombardment of these broadcast channel prompts, a fair share of Instagram users vented out their frustrations on Twitter.
A disgruntled user tweeted: “Another notification inviting me to a broadcast channel and I might snap.”
A second user posted: “Thinking of uninstalling Instagram because of constant broadcast channel notifications. They are unnecessary.”
The broadcast channel feature was introduced by Instagram in June, but it wasn’t until Tuesday, September 19, that it was rolled out in the UK. Even so, many users are yet to embrace this update as they seek ways of disabling the notifications.
Below, we’ll discuss Instagram’s latest feature in detail and provide a step-by-step guide to turning off these notifications.
Instagram’s Broadcast Channel Feature
In an Instagram blog post, the company revealed that the broadcast channels were launched in UK just earlier this week, after premiering globally back in June.
Announced by Meta Founder Mark Zuckerberg, these channels act as a “public, one-to-many messaging tool for content creators” to interact with their fanbase via a chat.
Sending out these invites are primarily done by creators, celebrities and influencers to gauge interest from potential participants for their broadcast channel.
The channel is designed to provide real-time updates to the followers, like sharing photographs, blog posts, and streamlining video content.
However, please note, only creators have the authority to communicate in the chats, with other participants being limited to interacting through content reactions and polling.
