In a shocking incident that unfolded in Glasgow’s east end, a woman was found driving under the influence of alcohol, four times over the permissible limit. The woman, identified as 48-year-old Linda Osborne, was apprehended by the police on March 17, 2022, shortly after leaving a school premises.

Osborne had been at a meeting in the school, interacting with a campus officer who quickly suspected her intoxication. After the meeting, Osborne proceeded to her Vauxhall Viva with the engine already running, an act that led the officer to promptly contact the local police.

Describing the incident, the prosecutor, Siobhan Currie, narrated: “Upon the police’s arrival, Osborne was engrossed in her phone, obliviously attempting to steer her car out of the parking space.” The situation escalated quickly as the police activated their sirens and intercepted the vehicle.

The law enforcement officers on the scene reported that they detected an evident smell of alcohol and noticed Osborne’s bloodshot eyes, clear signs of intoxication. After failing a roadside breath test, Osborne was arrested on the spot.

The gravity of her transgression became more apparent when a blood test conducted at the police station revealed her to have a staggering 211 milligrams of alcohol in her blood, a level that far exceeded the legal limit of 50 milligrams.

Osborne, a resident of Barrachnie in Glasgow, was charged with drink driving to which she pled guilty. Another charge against her, which accused her of causing unnecessary suffering or ill-health to a 14-year-old boy by driving under the influence with him in the car, was not pursued as she pled not guilty and the Crown accepted this plea.

As the court awaits background reports to determine her sentence, Osborne has been temporarily barred from driving. The court’s decision is expected to be announced next month.
