Christmas Events in Glasgow 2026: What’s On and When

Trees wrapped in Christmas lights in a park at night
Two large trees covered in multicoloured Christmas lights against a dark night sky.

Glasgow Life hasn’t published a 2026 Christmas lights switch-on date or a ticket ballot. Its own Christmas page still says Christmas in Glasgow is finished for 2025. Plenty else is confirmed: Winter Wonderland at St Enoch Square and Glasgow Green, pantomimes at the King’s, the Pavilion and the Tron, Santa’s grottos and a long run of family concerts at the Royal Concert Hall.

Last checked: 26 October 2026.

Everything below comes from the organiser’s or venue’s own page, and we’ve only included things with 2026 dates. If a date or price isn’t here, it hasn’t been announced yet or we couldn’t confirm it. Jump to the weekend-by-weekend table if you just want to know what’s on.

Glasgow Christmas lights switch-on 2026

There’s no 2026 switch-on date on Glasgow Life’s site yet, so there’s nothing to book or enter a ballot for. We’ll update this page when one is announced. George Square is the thing to watch: it’s been closed for rebuilding, and our Christmas markets page has the latest on what’s happening there.

What happened last year

In 2025 Glasgow Life announced a city centre lighting trail. It said that with work ongoing at George Square, Glasgow was doing things a little differently. The lights went on from 20 November 2025 along Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street and Argyle Street, with the Mercat Building on High Street too. On the opening night street performers started at 4.30pm and the lights came on at 6pm. After that the trail lit up at 4pm every evening until 3 January 2026.

Glasgow Life’s announcement didn’t mention tickets and said you could watch the lights come on from anywhere along the trail. That’s last year, though. Don’t treat it as a promise for this year.

Christmas markets and Winter Wonderland

The two big sites are Winter Wonderland at St Enoch Square, open from Friday 6 November to Sunday 27 December, and Winter Wonderland at Glasgow Green, open from Friday 20 November to Sunday 3 January 2027. Entry is free at both, and you pay for the rides and attractions. Opening times, getting there and what to eat are all on our Glasgow Christmas markets guide, and the rink has its own page at Glasgow Christmas ice skating. The organiser’s site is glasgowswinterwonderland.com.

Where to see Santa in Glasgow

The grotto at Glasgow Green is the one most people go for, and it’s ticketed. Two others are worth knowing about: the Science Centre’s planetarium version and the garden centre at Braehead. The shopping centres haven’t announced anything yet.

Where When Price
Santa’s Grotto, Winter Wonderland, Glasgow Green Selected dates from 20 Nov to 24 Dec £16.75 per child, plus booking fees
Santa’s Galactic Grotto, Glasgow Science Centre 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 Dec £26 each or £99 for a family of four
Santa’s Grotto, Dobbies Braehead Sat 28 Nov, 11.30am slot listed, more times on the booking page £15 per ticket
Santa’s Arrival, Dobbies Braehead Sun 22 Nov, 10.30am Free

Glasgow Green: the ticket covers grotto entry, a 6 by 9 inch photo and a gift from Santa. Each child ticket lets up to two adults in free, with a limit of five in a group. Walk-up tickets can cost more and aren’t guaranteed, so book ahead. There’s a quieter session for children with additional support needs on Thursday 17 December, 4pm to 7.30pm, and the grotto is wheelchair accessible.

Glasgow Science Centre: you search the galaxy for Santa in the planetarium and then meet him. The listing says it lasts 60 minutes plus a day’s entry to the Science Mall, and it suits ages 3 to 10. Babies and toddlers get a free ticket that doesn’t include a gift, but it has to be reserved. There’s a £1 transaction fee on top.

Dobbies Braehead: it’s at 75 Kings Inch Drive, Renfrew, G51 4FB, with free parking on site. Santa’s Arrival has performers from local groups and photos with Santa, and Dobbies recommends booking a space even though it’s free. The page only shows one grotto slot, so check the booking page for the others.

Shopping centres: when we checked on 26 October, St Enoch Centre, Buchanan Galleries and Glasgow Fort hadn’t put 2026 grotto dates on their sites. Check their What’s On pages nearer the time. We couldn’t read Silverburn’s site.

If you’d rather run past Santa than queue for him, the Beatson Cancer Charity’s Santa Dash is on Sunday 6 December. It starts and finishes at Glasgow Green and is a 5K route through the city centre. Adults pay £18, children £6, and under-5s are free. You can run, walk or ride a sleigh, and you arrive at 9.30am.

Christmas pantomimes in Glasgow 2026

Four theatres have Christmas shows on sale. The Tron and the Citizens print their prices. The Citizens’ Cinderella is a family show rather than a traditional panto.

The Tron’s Snaw Queen is written by Johnny McKnight and marks 40 years of the Tron panto. It’s recommended for ages 7 and over, and previews on 18 to 20 November are £19. The Citizens’ Cinderella is for ages 6 and over, runs about two hours with the interval, and adds a £1.50 booking fee per transaction.

Relaxed performances are Wednesday 9 December at 7pm for The Snaw Queen, Thursday 17 December for Aladdin at the King’s, and Sunday 20 December at 5pm for Cinderella. The King’s and Pavilion listings don’t print prices, so check the booking page for what’s left. For access questions, the Pavilion’s box office number is 0141 332 1846.

Family Christmas events at Glasgow Life venues

Most of the festive events on Glasgow Life’s listings are at the Royal Concert Hall. Prices below are as printed on each event page and include the booking fee and restoration fund, with separate postage and card fees on top.

Event When Price
Elf Academy with the RSNO, Royal Concert Hall Sat 12 Dec, 1pm and 3pm Adult £23.50, £19 or £13.50. Child £17, £13.50 or £10.50
The McDougalls: Christmas in Toyland, New Auditorium Thu 24 Dec, 1pm and 3pm £17.18

Dunedin Consort: Children’s Messiah, New Auditorium Thu 17 Dec, 4.30pm £7.50

The McDougalls show is one hour, aimed at children up to about 9, and they’re asked to bring a teddy. The Snowman concert has Hugh Dennis narrating, and the RSNO page lists discounts for under 18s. Under-16s need an adult with them at the McDougalls and Elf Academy shows.

At Kelvingrove, the RSPB’s Wintering Animals is a free drop-in on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, 1pm to 4pm, with animal crafts. It’s winter-themed rather than Christmassy. We couldn’t find any Christmas events listed yet at Riverside Museum or the Botanic Gardens’ Kibble Palace on Glasgow Life’s What’s On, so check back nearer the time.

At Glasgow Green, A Very Merry Circus in the heated Big Top is £12.50 for adults and children, plus a £3 booking fee, and under-twos sit on a lap for free. There’s an ASN performance for the circus on Sunday 6 December. The ticket page says noon to 1pm but the organiser’s FAQ says 6pm, so check before you book. For more ideas, see our guides to things to do with kids in Glasgow and free things to do, and the Glasgow school holidays dates.
