In a heartbreaking turn of events, a five-year-old boy lost his life, and a nine-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after being struck by a bus in Glasgow. The accident took place on Calder Street, Govanhill, near the Hickman Street junction, at approximately 5:40 pm on Tuesday.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene where paramedics attempted to save the young boy. Despite their best efforts, he was tragically pronounced dead shortly after. The nine-year-old girl was transported to the Royal Hospital for Children, where her condition remains serious but stable.
Authorities closed Calder Street following the accident, reopening it around 11:55 pm. Police Scotland’s Sergeant Nicolas Twigg expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with the family of the boy who died, and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.”

First Bus, the company operating the single-decker bus involved in the incident, is cooperating with Police Scotland and has launched its own internal investigation. Duncan Cameron, Managing Director of First Bus Scotland, conveyed his sympathies, saying, “We are devastated to learn of the death of a child involved in yesterday’s incident on Calder Street in Glasgow. Our deepest condolences are with all those involved at this incredibly difficult time.”
