Glasgow City Council Leader, Councillor Susan Aitken, on the creation of new mass vaccination centres in venues run on behalf of the council by Glasgow Life.

Cllr Aitken, said: “It is absolutely vital that we get this vaccine rolled out across the population as soon as possible, starting with the most vulnerable and Glasgow City Council is glad that we have been able to assist. This is the biggest vaccination programme ever undertaken in Scotland and the logistical and organisational expertise of the military combined with the availability and accessibility of council-owned venues will accelerate the roll-out of the vaccine by NHS staff.

“Right now, City Building staff are working alongside the army to put in place the necessary infrastructure, so that we can hand over our facilities to the NHS and vaccinations can begin as soon as possible. Health officials are aiming to have over half a million people in Scotland vaccinated by the beginning of next month. Glasgow City Council stands ready to assist in whatever way we can.”
