Cumbernauld High School Suffers £5K Worth of Damage in Reckless Vandalism Spree.

Authorities in Lanarkshire are urging the public to provide assistance following an appalling act of vandalism at St. Maurice’s High School. The incident, which left 38 windows shattered and plant equipment damaged, resulted in an estimated £5,000 in damages – a figure that’s likely to increase as further assessments are conducted.

The destructive spree at St. Maurice’s High School left a trail of shattered glass and damaged plant equipment. Even a forklift truck wasn’t spared from the vandals’ senseless actions. The events unfolded between 10:30 pm on Friday, May 5th, and 6:00 am on Tuesday, May 9th, leaving the school community in shock.

North Lanarkshire Council is currently calculating the extent of the damages, with the initial estimate of over £5,000 expected to rise as inspections progress.

Lanarkshire police have issued a plea for any witnesses with information to step forward.

A spokesperson for the police stated, “While the school is currently undergoing construction work, we are appealing to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity on the premises or scaffolding during the mentioned time frame to contact us at 101, quoting incident number 0540 of May 9th, 2023.” They added that those who wish to provide information anonymously can reach out to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or submit details online here.
