Members of Glasgow City Council have called for dialogue in response to concerns over the action of the Spanish government in Catalonia.

Councillors voted to support a motion by Depute Leader, Cllr David McDonald, and seconded by Cllr Jon Molyneux.

Cllr McDonald said: ““This city has always spoken out in the face of human rights abuses and Amnesty International believes that has happened in Catalonia.

“Some 700 local mayors in Catalonia face prosecution and, as representatives of local government in Scotland, it’s right that we speak out about that and express our solidarity with them.

“We have now called on the Spanish and Catalan Governments and I hope that will happen soon.”
