Outlander fans fume over major change to beloved character’s look

Dedicated followers of the hit Starz drama, Outlander, were recently treated to a preview of season seven’s highly awaited second part. Fans didn’t hesitate to discuss a significant alteration in a critical character’s appearance.

The incoming episodes showcased invigorated appearances for characters like Jamie (portrayed by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe). These new looks hint at their continued adventures of our beloved Glasgow-based characters, set to premiere this November.

Also highlighted was their daughter, Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton), who found herself devastated after her son with Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) was mysteriously taken and sent back into the past.

While Brianna is shown discussing her son’s disappearance with law enforcement, it’s her changed appearance that fans are particularly pondering over.

Outlander fans are split over Brianna’s new 1980s style

Fans are less preoccupied with the fate of the MacKenzie’s child, and more intrigued by Brianna’s updated hairdo for the upcoming installment. Since Roger and Brianna returned to their lives in the 1980s in the last part, their daughter has been sporting a more decade-appropriate hairstyle, complete with bangs.

This new look, however, hasn’t been welcomed with open arms by all watchers. Partly because as her despair over her missing son grows, her usually kept appearance seems neglected in the recent sneak peek.

A less pleased fan, commenting on Reddit, lamented Brianna’s hair: “I suspect someone in hair and makeup doesn’t like Brianna, because what IS that thing on her head?”.

Defending the freshly introduced look, a fellow viewer stated: “The 80s were notorious for their hair. Bangs were fashionable, and later, substantial hair and spiral perms. It seems historically accurate to me.”

The original complaint retaliated, “It’s less about the style for me, and more about how wig-like it looks. Plus, given the character has naturally curly hair, I expected her to return to that in the 80s.”

Fans approve of Roger’s updated appearance

Another disgruntled fan entered the debate, asking: “Was Bree’s wig a Party City purchase?!”

A separate viewer added: “None of her looks have great, but ever since they gave Bree bangs it’s been… why are they sabotaging you?”

A viewer, questioning the necessity of Brianna’s constant hair changes, pondered: “I don’t grasp why her hair is straight in the present but curly in the 1700s. Also, how does Claire’s hair grow so rapidly? Is time travel the ultimate hair treatment?”

Meanwhile, Richard Rankin, Sophie’s on-screen spouse, is only being met with praise for Roger’s updated style.

A Redditor exclaimed, “I’ve only seen up to season 4 but wow! A round of applause for the Roger glow-up. His physical appearance has been a letdown compared to his book description. This is closer to the Roger in the books.”

Season 7, part 2 of Outlander will launch on Friday, November 22 on Starz.
