In an exciting development for community sports, Glasgow City Council has confirmed a 25-year lease for Park Villa Football Development to manage the operations of the esteemed Glasgow Club Drumoyne.

This local community organization has been successfully managing the club since July 2022 under the dynamic People Make Glasgow Communities (PMGC) initiative. Prior to the pandemic, Glasgow Life, a council-affiliated body, was in charge of this council-owned facility.

Driven by a vision to foster local services and projects, Park Villa presented a compelling proposal to run Glasgow Club Drumoyne under the PMGC initiative. This remarkable programme encourages local communities, organizations, and individuals to actively contribute to their locality by managing and operating community venues. The council endorsed the initiation of lease negotiations back in March 2022.

Spread over an impressive 6.74-acre site, Glasgow Club Drumoyne boasts a myriad of facilities. From an outdoor floodlit 3G synthetic pitch and a 2G synthetic pitch to grass football and rugby pitches, the club is well-equipped to cater to sports enthusiasts. It also houses a spacious four-court sports hall, gym, dance and fitness studios, and changing facilities, topped with ample parking space.

Under Park Villa’s administration, the club has seen a whopping £200,000 funding influx aimed at enhancing the facility. This has facilitated the procurement of new sports and IT equipment, development of a new website, creation of a distinctive hub logo and signs, and the employment of local talents. A significant portion of the fund has been allocated for a new footpath leading to the 3G pitch, augmenting its accessibility.

Park Villa’s inclusive approach has led to collaborations with 17 different organizations to offer 10 diverse activities at the facility.

Praising Park Villa’s achievements, Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Neighbourhoods Services and Assets at Glasgow City Council, remarked: “Park Villa Football Development’s effective management of Glasgow Club Drumoyne exemplifies the impact of the People Make Glasgow Communities programme. This laudable organization has been instrumental in broadening sports engagement in the areas served by this facility. Their planned improvements are a promising addition to a community facility that they are optimizing to its fullest potential.”
