Acclaimed South Lanarkshire College Educator and Apprentice Receive Top Honors in Their Industries.

South Lanarkshire College’s esteemed Beauty Therapy lecturer Dawn Paterson Ross and Roofing Occupations apprentice Sean Comaskey have both earned prestigious awards in their respective fields. Located in East Kilbride, the college has become a breeding ground for exceptional talent.

Dawn Paterson Ross, a renowned Beauty Therapy lecturer at South Lanarkshire College since 2009, recently secured both the regional Southwest and National titles for ‘Semi-Permanent Makeup Specialist of the Year’ at the Scottish Makeup Awards 2023. Simultaneously operating her own successful business, Dawn Paterson Ross Permanent Makeup & Scalp Artist, in Saltcoats, Dawn expressed her excitement upon winning. She loves witnessing clients’ satisfaction and was thrilled just to be nominated.

Dawn’s victory came as no surprise to her Curriculum Manager, Joanne Warwick, who praised Dawn as an inspiring lecturer who stays ahead of industry trends and consistently develops her skills, motivating her students in the process.

Meanwhile, South Lanarkshire College’s Roofing Occupations apprentice Sean Comaskey is also basking in the spotlight, having won the esteemed Cupa Pizarras Slate Apprentice of the Year award 2022. Based in Glasgow, Sean studies at the East Kilbride campus of South Lanarkshire College and works for C Hanlon Facilities Management Limited. He is proud of his rapid progress, enhancing his trade skills daily and thoroughly enjoying the blend of on-site work with his employer and in-classroom learning from college lecturers.

Sean encourages others to consider trade apprenticeships, emphasizing the opportunity to gain experience and earn while learning. C Hanlon, Sean’s employer, commended his hard work, dedication, and exceptional skill development during his first apprenticeship year. Sean’s victory exemplifies his enthusiasm and work ethic both at college and on the job.
