Although known for partaking in some of the most lavish culinary delights across the globe, the late Queen Elizabeth did not fail to appreciate the simple joy a takeout meal has to offer.
According to recent revelations, while at her treasured Balmoral home, Her Majesty had a preferred comfort food for which a footman was routinely sent to Ballater to collect. A reliable source shared with Fabulous that, “The Queen occasionally relished having fish and chips during her stay at Balmoral. A footman was always sent to the local town of Ballater to collect her order.”
Her occasional preference for fast food wasn’t just limited to fish and chips. As per a report by Hello! Magazine, royal correspondent Jayne Seymour stated that Sandringham House once placed an order from Krazy Kebabs in Swaffham.
The delivery person’s recounted tale to Jayne goes: “My initial assumption was that the food was for a servant. But when I reached the entrance, a butler collected it and mentioned that it was for the Queen. We have a reputation for making the best kebabs in Norfolk and I hope the Queen enjoyed it.”
Also known to enjoy a fast-food treat is Prince William, who hasn’t been shy in expressing his love for chicken chain, Nandos. In a BBC documentary titled, ‘Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health’ in May 2020, he revealed: “Everyone loves a Nando’s,” although admitting that it had been some time since he last had a burger or pitta there.
Revealing a small insight into his personal life, he joked: “Actually, my police guard is to blame for my Nando’s craze. He takes me there all the time.”
Meanwhile, in 2017, Kate Middleton shared her favorite takeout during an interview with BBC Radio 1, joined by Prince William.
Kate shared: “It has to be curry,” but quickly added that William doesn’t share her taste for it as he isn’t a fan of spicy food. They funnily added, “We don’t usually get it delivered to the palace, we prefer to pick it up, well, not exactly by ourselves!”
In a candid chat with her son Tom Parker Bowles for YOU Magazine, Queen Camilla revealed that her preferred takeout is a classic British dish – freshly cooked fish and chips wrapped in paper. She passionately declared: “Nothing can beat the indulgence of a proper fish and chips.”
Also known for his fast-food preference is King Charles, particularly for pizza. Once, during a public gathering in St Boswells, Scotland, he gleefully admitted that Margherita was his favorite pizza after someone presented him with one.
Remembering the incident, Chef Erminio Di Meo told the Press Association: “I wanted him to have the pizza as he is such an integral part of this country. He seemed quite curious, gave me a smile and I remarked ‘it’s a Margherita’. To which he jovially replied, ‘Oh, it’s my favourite’.”
