Experts Neutralize Potential Threat on Glasgow Street Following Discovery of ‘Suspicious Device’
In a high-stakes operation, bomb disposal specialists, clad in camouflage attire, joined forces with other emergency services on Petershill Road in Springburn, Glasgow, following the discovery of a suspicious device within a residential property. The incident led to the evacuation of local residents earlier today.
Police were alerted to the situation at around 10 am on Monday, and subsequently dispatched bomb disposal teams, uniformed officers, and members of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) to secure the area. A safety cordon was put in place, and residents were instructed to vacate their homes as a precautionary measure. The eastern portion of Petershill Road and the nearby Red Road remain closed to the public.
A 50-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the incident. As emergency services continue to be on high alert, the Ministry of Defense has been contacted for further commentary.
Scores of firefighters are on standby, supporting the explosive ordnance experts at the scene. Additionally, a Scottish Ambulance Service incident support vehicle has been deployed. An SFRS spokesperson confirmed that firefighters were still present at the location as of 5:30 pm.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers have been spotted in Springburn, as Police Scotland representatives stated: “Police and emergency services are currently attending an incident in Petershill Road, Springburn, Glasgow. Officers were called around 10:05 am this morning, Monday, April 17, to a report of a suspect device within a flat in the street.”
EOD teams are now on-site, and as a safety measure, several flats have been evacuated, and certain road closures have been enforced. Local residents are advised to follow detour signs or explore alternative routes.
This incident comes as the second shock to Springburn residents in recent days. A murder investigation is ongoing after Thomas Bowers, 33, was discovered deceased on Auchinloch Street, not far from Petershill Road, on Friday.
Authorities are probing whether his death, which occurred around 5 am on April 14, is connected to a car fire on Gadie Street, two miles away, just an hour later. A police spokesperson mentioned: “Officers are keeping an open mind as this progresses and are considering possible links between the two incidents.”
