The Glasgow passport office is at 3 Northgate, 96 Milton Street, Cowcaddens, Glasgow G4 0BT. It’s open Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 5pm. You can only go for an urgent passport, and GOV.UK says you must book an appointment first, before you call or visit. There’s no walking in.
Last checked: 25 October 2026.
This guide covers the two urgent services, what they cost, how to book, what to bring, how to get there and what to do if you’re not in a rush. Prices and rules come from GOV.UK, starting with its urgent passport page.
Glasgow passport office: address, hours and phone
- Address: 3 Northgate, 96 Milton Street, Cowcaddens, Glasgow G4 0BT.
- Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 5pm. GOV.UK lists no Saturday or Sunday hours for Glasgow.
- Phone: GOV.UK doesn’t give a number for the Glasgow office itself. The number to use is the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000.
- Adviceline hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm. Weekends and UK bank holidays, 9am to 5:30pm.
The address and hours are from the passport offices list on the passport service. The Adviceline details are on GOV.UK’s Adviceline page. Glasgow is also one of the centres listed on GOV.UK’s find a passport office page.
Can you just turn up?
No. On its find a passport office page, GOV.UK says: “You must book an appointment for an urgent passport application before you call or visit a centre.” You book, apply and pay in one online service, then you go to your slot. GOV.UK doesn’t say what happens if you arrive without one, so don’t make the trip to find out.
If you need a passport urgently for medical treatment, government business, or a serious illness or death in the family, GOV.UK says to call the Passport Adviceline instead of using the online booking.
The two urgent services and what they cost
| Service | Fee | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day Premium | £239.50 (£253.50 for a 54-page frequent traveller passport) | Adult renewals only |
| 1 week Fast Track, adult | £192 (£206 for 54 pages) | Renewals, changing personal details, lost, stolen or damaged passports |
| 1 week Fast Track, child | £156.50 (£170.50 for 54 pages) | Child passports |
How each one works
- 1 day Premium: the earliest appointment is 2 days after you apply. You hand in your old passport at the appointment, and the new one is ready to collect from the passport office 4 hours later.
- 1 week Fast Track: the earliest appointment is the day after you apply. A courier delivers the new passport 1 week after your appointment.
Neither service is for a first adult passport. GOV.UK says to use the standard service for that. Don’t pay for an urgent passport if you’ve already applied and are still waiting. You won’t get it sooner, and GOV.UK says each extra application costs a £34.50 admin fee.
How to book an appointment
- Go to the urgent passport service from GOV.UK and answer the eligibility questions.
- Pick an appointment. You can book up to three weeks ahead, and each one lasts up to 10 minutes.
- Apply and pay online, all in the same service.
Changing your appointment is free if it’s more than 48 hours away. To cancel for a refund you ring the Adviceline, and GOV.UK says a £34.50 admin fee applies if the appointment is less than 48 hours away. If you miss it, there’s no refund and you have to book and pay again.
What to bring
- Your old passport, if you have one.
- A digital photo of yourself, for the online application.
- A credit or debit card, to pay.
Someone else can go for you. They need your application reference, which starts with “PEX”. For Premium they also need your old passport, a signed and dated letter from you giving them permission, and their own ID. For Fast Track they need your old passport, if you have one, and any documents you were told to bring.
Getting to the passport office
The office is in Cowcaddens, on the north side of the city centre. We haven’t found an official walking time from any station to Milton Street, so put the postcode G4 0BT into a maps app before you set off.
By Subway
The Subway has a Cowcaddens station, in the same area as the office’s address. SPT’s access guide says it has two entrances, both onto the public space next to Dundasvale Road. The eastern one gives a footpath to Cowcaddens Road, or an underpass to Cambridge Street. Step-free access goes as far as the ticket hall. There’s no lift down to the platform, only stairs and escalators. Fares and times are in our Glasgow Subway guide.
By train
Glasgow Queen Street station is on North Hanover Street at George Square (G1 2AF). National Rail lists no parking there, and we have no official walking route from it to Milton Street. Our Glasgow trains guide covers fares and stations.
By bus or taxi
Our Glasgow bus guide and taxi guide have routes and fares. Give the driver the full address and G4 0BT.
Parking
GOV.UK doesn’t mention parking at the office, so don’t count on any. One city centre car park with its own published prices is Buchanan Galleries, run by Apcoa. It’s open 7am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sunday, and you can’t get in or out after 9pm. It’s card and contactless only, with a 2.1m height limit. We don’t have an official walking time from there to Milton Street.
- Up to 1 hour: £2.40.
- 1 to 2 hours: £4.50.
- 2 to 3 hours: £5.70.
- 3 to 4 hours: £8.00.
- 4 to 5 hours: £11.00.
That last pair matters if you’ve booked 1 day Premium, because you’ll be back 4 hours after your appointment. For other spaces, see our free parking guide. Prices are from the car park’s own page.
If you’re not in a rush: the normal application
Most people don’t need the office at all. You can apply online at GOV.UK with a debit or credit card. It’s £13.50 cheaper than applying by post, according to GOV.UK.
- Adult passport online: £102. By paper form: £115.50.
- Child passport online: £66.50. By paper form: £80.
- Time: GOV.UK says “You’ll usually get your passport within 3 weeks.” It can take longer if they need more information or want to interview you. The clock starts when your documents arrive.
Don’t book travel until you have a valid passport. GOV.UK points out that the new one won’t have the same number as your old one. Fees are on the passport fees page.
