How to Get to Glasgow’s Big Venues: Train, Subway, Bus and Car

SubwayStation
SubwayStation

Here’s the short answer. For Scotstoun Stadium it’s Scotstounhill, for Tollcross swimming pool it’s Carntyne, and the SEC and OVO Hydro have their own station, Exhibition Centre. Hampden is five minutes from Mount Florida or King’s Park, the Arena and Celtic Park are a walk from Dalmarnock, and Ibrox has its own Subway station. Each venue has a section below with the walk, the buses and the parking, plus a short park and ride section.

Last checked: 24 October 2026.

The Commonwealth Games ran from 23 July to 2 August 2026 and they’re over, so this guide is for matches, gigs and swims now.

Which station for which venue

Where a venue or the Games organisers gave a walking time, we’ve used it. Where they didn’t, we measured the walk ourselves on OpenStreetMap’s walking routes, and the table says “about”.

Hungry before or after? We’ve got a list of places to eat near Glasgow’s venues.

Scotstoun Stadium: nearest train station

The nearest train station to Scotstoun Stadium is Scotstounhill, and it’s the closest station of any kind. Allow 8 to 20 minutes on foot, depending on which gate you’re going to.

The Glasgow Warriors say their north-west gate on Northland Drive is an 8 minute walk from the station. The main gate on Danes Drive takes longer, and the Games spectator guide allowed 15 to 20 minutes for it. Jordanhill is further away, about 1.8 km from the stadium, so Scotstounhill is the one to use.

  • Address: 112 Danes Drive, Glasgow G14 9HD.
  • Train: Scotstounhill is on the Argyle and North Clyde lines, 14 minutes from Glasgow Central low level. Trains run to Glasgow Central, Queen Street and Partick.
  • Subway: There’s no Subway station near the stadium. The nearest Subway station is Partick, about 3 km away, so take the train from Scotstounhill and change there.
  • Bus: First Glasgow runs buses to Scotstoun, and the Warriors name the 1, 2, 3, 6 and X4. The Games guide has the 1, 2 and 3 stopping on Dumbarton Road and the X4 on Westland Drive. Our Glasgow bus guide has fares and day tickets.
  • Driving and parking: The Warriors say there’s no public parking at the stadium on match days. The car park beside it is for Glasgow Club Scotstoun users, and the council has parking controls round the stadium, with fines. Taxis drop off at the main entrance on Danes Drive. For Warriors games, disabled supporters can enter a ballot for on-site parking, and it closes three days before the match.

Our Scotstoun area guide covers what’s around the stadium.

Tollcross swimming pool: nearest train station

The nearest train station to Tollcross swimming pool is Carntyne, on the North Clyde line. The Games site gives it as a 14 minute walk, and the Games spectator guide said 15 to 20 minutes to the entrance. Shettleston and Carmyle are both further out, at about 2 km or more, so don’t bother with them.

  • Address: Tollcross International Swimming Centre, 350 Wellshot Road, Glasgow G32 7QR.
  • Train: Carntyne is a 7 minute train from Glasgow Queen Street low level.
  • Subway: There’s no Subway station anywhere near Tollcross.
  • Bus: The Games spectator guide listed First Bus 61, 64, 164, 240, 255 and N240 on Tollcross Road, and put the journey at about 27 minutes from the city centre.
  • Driving and parking: Glasgow Life lists a car park at the centre and says parking is free.

Glasgow International Arena (the Emirates Arena) and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome: nearest station

The nearest train station to the Emirates Arena, now the Glasgow International Arena, is Dalmarnock, about a 10 to 15 minute walk. Bridgeton is the other station, but it’s further.

Glasgow Life announced on 8 April 2026 that the Emirates Arena was becoming the Glasgow International Arena, and its venue page now uses that name. The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is inside the arena and keeps its name. They share one address, so the directions are the same.

  • Address: 1000 London Road, Glasgow G40 3HG.
  • Train: Dalmarnock is on the Argyle Line, and Glasgow Life lists four trains an hour from Monday to Saturday, so check ScotRail for Sundays. National Rail says Dalmarnock has step-free access to every platform. It lists no step-free access at Bridgeton.
  • Subway: There’s no Subway station near the arena.
  • Bus: The Games spectator guide named routes 18, 18A, 46, 65 and 263 on Dalmarnock Road, and 90, 189 and 190 on Springfield Road. Glasgow Life says the nearest bus stops are at the Forge Retail Park, and that shuttle buses run from the city centre for some events.
  • Driving and parking: Glasgow Life lists parking as free. The main car park is on the left and there’s an overflow car park on the right. Glasgow Life warns that it gets very busy at major events, so get there early.

SEC and OVO Hydro: nearest station

The SEC (the Scottish Event Campus) and the OVO Hydro have their own train station, Exhibition Centre. A covered walkway links the platform to the campus, and the Games organisers put it at a 4 minute walk to the Hydro’s entrance. It’s the easiest venue in this guide to reach by train.

  • Address: Exhibition Way, Glasgow G3 8YW. Use G3 8GS in the satnav for the multi-storey car park.
  • Train: Exhibition Centre is on the Argyle Line, 3 minutes from Glasgow Central. There are six trains an hour, about every 10 minutes, leaving Central low level from platform 17. A lift takes you from the platform to street level.
  • Subway: There’s no Subway station close by. The Games guide put the nearest at a 20 minute walk (Ibrox, south of the river) or 25 minutes (Partick). SPT, which runs the Subway, lists the SEC and the Science Centre as near Cessnock, and we measured that walk at about 1.7 km. The train’s easier.
  • Bus: The SEC says three bus services run to the campus, and it names the X19, a Stagecoach service that stops on Finnieston Street, a few minutes’ walk away.
  • On foot: About 30 minutes along the Clyde from the city centre.
  • Taxis: There’s a Glasgow Taxis pick-up and drop-off point beside the SEC Armadillo.
  • Driving and parking: The main car park is the multi-storey at 10 Stobcross Road, run by the council. It’s open 24 hours, you pay before you leave, and there’s a 2 metre height limit. It’s 128 metres to the Hydro’s south entrance and 265 metres to the SEC Centre’s east entrance.
  • Price: The SEC’s car park page doesn’t give one. For the Games, the organisers’ FAQ said Blue Badge parking in this car park cost £12 a day, so check the price before you go. If you’re driving in through the city centre, check the Low Emission Zone first.

The SEC’s own trains page warns about engineering work. When we checked on 24 October, it listed no train service between Rutherglen and Exhibition Centre via Glasgow Central low level on 24 and 25 October, and none between Partick and Rutherglen on 31 October and 1 November, though some trains are diverted. Check National Rail’s disruptions page before you set off.

Our Finnieston guide covers the area round the SEC.

Hampden Park: nearest station

The nearest train stations to Hampden Park are Mount Florida and King’s Park, and Hampden says it’s a five minute walk from either. Trains run from Glasgow Central.

  • Address: Letherby Drive, Glasgow G42 9BA. Hampden gives G44 4QG as its satnav postcode.
  • Train: If you need step-free access, use Mount Florida. National Rail lists no step-free access to the platforms at King’s Park.
  • Subway: There’s no Subway station near Hampden.
  • Bus: First Glasgow’s 5, 6, 7, 7A, 34, 90 and 31 run from the city centre.
  • On foot: 45 to 50 minutes from the city centre, says Hampden.
  • Driving and parking: Honestly, don’t drive. Hampden tells you not to on event days. Parking round the ground is strictly for residents and local businesses, and car park passes for major events go to the clubs, governing bodies and promoters. On days with no event, the stadium car park outside the South Stand is free.
  • Event day zone: The council’s event day parking zone is in force for major events, with parking attendants enforcing it. Hampden’s parking page lists enforcement from 14:30 to 23:59, with Prospecthill Drive and Hangingshaw Place closed from 10:00 to midnight and Somerville Drive and Letherby Drive closed from 18:00 to midnight.
  • Drop-off: There are no set down or pick up points. There is an accessible drop off point off Kinghorn Drive on major event days, and you don’t need to book it.
  • Bikes: There are racks under exit stairwells 36 and 44. No locks are provided.

Our Mount Florida guide covers the area round Hampden.

Celtic Park: nearest station

The nearest train stations to Celtic Park are Dalmarnock and Bridgeton. Both are about 15 to 20 minutes’ walk. We measured about 1.3 km from each station to the Celtic Superstore.

  • Address: Celtic Park, Kerrydale Street, Glasgow G40 3RE.
  • Train: Celtic’s getting-there page says trains from Glasgow Central or Argyle Street run to Dalmarnock and Bridgeton. Dalmarnock has step-free access to every platform, and National Rail lists none at Bridgeton.
  • Subway: There’s no Subway station near Celtic Park.
  • Bus: Celtic names the 2, 61, 64, 240 and 255 from the city centre. They stop at the Forge Shopping Centre on the Gallowgate. Celtic tells passengers to get off there and puts the walk to the ground at about a mile. Check the routes with First Bus on the day.
  • Driving and parking: Celtic says it has limited parking in the Lisbon Lions 1 car park, which you reach from Janefield Street as you come in from Springfield Road. It’s first come, first served, and the getting-there page lists £8 a car, card only. Celtic’s Blue Badge page gives a standard charge of £5 for the same car park, so check the price before you go. Celtic also warns that traffic round the ground gets very congested nearer kick-off, so get there early. For the streets, see the event day parking section below.
  • Blue Badge parking: The Celtic Disabled Supporters Association hands out all the Blue Badge spaces by ballot, match by match. Celtic’s Blue Badge page says the Lisbon Lions car parks close 90 minutes before kick-off and the Jock Stein coach park 60 minutes before.

Ibrox Stadium: nearest Subway station

The nearest station to Ibrox Stadium is Ibrox on the Subway, on Copland Road. We measured about 5 to 7 minutes on foot. SPT lists Ibrox Stadium as the first thing nearby.

  • Address: 150 Edmiston Drive, Glasgow G51 2XD. The Subway station is at 124 Copland Road, G51 2UB.
  • Subway: Rangers say Ibrox station can be exceptionally busy after a match. They point fans to Cessnock and Govan, both under a mile away, and to Dumbreck railway station, which is under a mile too. Sunday Subway hours are shorter than the rest of the week, so check SPT’s Subway page before a Sunday game. Our Subway guide has the map and fares.
  • Bus: First Glasgow’s 9 and 9A run from the city centre to Paisley Road West, a short walk from the stadium. Rangers put it at about 13 minutes, with fares from £2.65, and a 2025 notice adds that McGill’s runs there too.
  • Driving and parking: It changes from match to match, so read the supporter information on Rangers’ site for your game. For West Ham on 26 July 2026 they couldn’t offer general supporter parking. For St Mirren on 16 August 2026 there were limited spaces in the Broomloan Road car park at £10 a car, first come first served, and Rangers asked fans to park at least 95 minutes before kick-off.
  • Streets: Rangers said in a July 2025 notice that parking restrictions stay in place on many roads approaching the stadium.
  • Bikes: There are racks at the Copland and Broomloan stands.

Ibrox is on the edge of Govan, and our Govan guide covers the area.

Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls and Tennis Centre: nearest station

There’s no station right beside the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre, which Glasgow Life calls the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls and Tennis Centre. The nearest are Kelvinhall and Kelvinbridge on the Subway, each about 15 minutes’ walk. For trains, Exhibition Centre is about the same distance.

  • Address: Kelvin Way, Glasgow, at the southern end of Kelvingrove Park. Glasgow Life gives G3 7TA on its booking site and G3 6BY on its venue page, a few hundred metres apart.
  • Subway: SPT lists the Kelvingrove Museum and Kelvin Hall beside Kelvinhall, and Kelvingrove Park beside Kelvinbridge. We measured about 1.1 km from each.
  • Train: We measured about 1 km from Exhibition Centre. Charing Cross is about 1.6 km and Partick about 2 km, so they’re a longer walk.
  • Booking: Glasgow Life says courts have to be booked in advance, so don’t just turn up. Bookings go through the Glasgow Club app, and tennis courts through ClubSpark. It lists the centre as open 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm at weekends.
  • Driving and parking: Glasgow Life doesn’t list any parking for the centre. Kelvinbridge is also an SPT park and ride, so you can park there and walk about 15 minutes.

Event day parking: what the council does

Glasgow City Council polices parking round the big grounds on event days. At Hampden there’s a council event day parking zone. The Warriors say the council has parking controls round Scotstoun on match days, with fines for anyone parked wrongly.

Celtic Park and Ibrox are less clear. The council’s January 2026 progress report listed event day parking zones round both grounds with a target of April 2026, and said an options report had been produced. We couldn’t find anything confirming they’ve started, so read the signs on the street. Rangers said in July 2025 that restrictions were in place on many roads approaching Ibrox.

There’s a pavement parking ban in Glasgow, with some exemptions, and the council fines drivers who break it. Rangers remind fans of that in their match notices. The council has also said it usually starts enforcing two hours before an event and carries on for an hour after it ends, with 8 to 11 parking attendants on site (council report, March 2023).

Park and ride for Glasgow’s venues (and the Commonwealth Games)

Looking for the Commonwealth Games park and ride? The Games FAQ didn’t list a separate scheme. It said there was no spectator parking at any competition venue apart from pre-booked accessible parking, and it sent drivers to SPT’s Subway park and ride sites and to ScotRail station car parks. Those are still your options now.

SPT runs park and ride at three Subway stations:

  • Shields Road: 839 spaces, and the only one that allows overnight parking.
  • Bridge Street: 183 spaces.
  • Kelvinbridge: 158 spaces.

All-day parking with a return Subway journey is £8.15, from the Subway ticket office. If you’ve already got a Subway season ticket or ZoneCard, or you pay as you go, the parking add-on is £4.75. Parking on its own is £3.20 for up to 2 hours or £8.15 for the day, paid by contactless at the exit. The car parks are open during Subway hours.

Park at Shields Road or Bridge Street and take the Subway to Ibrox, or park at Kelvinbridge for the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre. SPT has the full list of sites and prices, and our Glasgow park and ride guide goes into more detail.

The Subway doesn’t go near the other venues, so it’s the train, and the station car parks near them are tiny or missing. SPT’s list shows 7 spaces at Scotstounhill and 9 at Jordanhill. National Rail lists no car parking at Dalmarnock, Bridgeton, Carntyne, Mount Florida or King’s Park. Shettleston has 62 spaces, but it’s about 2 km from Tollcross.

Want to leave the car further out and walk or take a bus in? Our free parking guide covers where you can still find a space.

Before you go: fares, times and engineering work

  • Subway fares: An adult single is £1.85 on a disposable ticket or £1.80 with a smartcard, and a day ticket is £4.45 or £3.40 with a smartcard. Those prices started on 5 January 2026. You can tap in and out with a contactless card or phone too, but use the same one both times.
  • Subway times: SPT says the Subway is open 06:30 to 23:40 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:12 on Sundays. Trains run every four minutes at peak times.
  • Trains: Check National Rail’s disruptions page before a weekend trip. Our Glasgow trains guide has fares and ZoneCards.
  • Buses: Check your route with First Bus or Traveline Scotland the day before.

How we checked this

The addresses, walking times, bus routes and prices come from each venue’s own pages, SPT, National Rail and the Glasgow 2026 venue guides. Where we measured a walk ourselves, we say “about”. We couldn’t open the council’s own parking pages, so the event day parking section leans on the council’s committee papers and the venues’ own pages.

Frequently asked questions

What is the nearest train station to Scotstoun Stadium?

Scotstounhill. It’s an 8 minute walk to the Warriors’ north-west gate on Northland Drive, and 15 to 20 minutes to the main gate on Danes Drive. The train from Glasgow Central low level takes 14 minutes.

What is the nearest train station to Tollcross swimming pool?

Carntyne, which the Games site puts at a 14 minute walk. It’s a 7 minute train from Glasgow Queen Street low level. Shettleston and Carmyle are further away.

What is the nearest station to the SEC and the OVO Hydro?

Exhibition Centre, about 4 minutes along a covered walkway. It’s 3 minutes by train from Glasgow Central. There’s no Subway station close by.

Can you park at Hampden Park on match days?

Almost certainly not. Hampden tells you not to drive on event days, car park passes for major events go to the clubs, governing bodies and promoters, and the streets nearby are for residents and local businesses. The stadium car park is free to use on days with no event. Take the train to Mount Florida or King’s Park instead.

Was there a park and ride for the Commonwealth Games?

Not a separate one that the Games listed. The organisers’ FAQ pointed drivers to SPT’s Subway park and ride at Shields Road, Bridge Street and Kelvinbridge, and to ScotRail station car parks. The Games finished on 2 August 2026.

Is the Emirates Arena still called that?

No. Glasgow Life announced in April 2026 that it was becoming the Glasgow International Arena, and its page now uses that name. The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is inside it and keeps its name, and both are at 1000 London Road.

Which Glasgow venues have a free car park?

Glasgow Life lists free parking at Tollcross swimming centre and the Glasgow International Arena. Hampden’s stadium car park is free on days with no event. The SEC’s multi-storey is pay and the council runs it. Scotstoun has no public parking on match days, Celtic Park has a limited car park that Celtic lists at £8 a car, and Ibrox changes from match to match.
