Pre-season friendlies are fast approaching and Warrior Nation is predicting an exciting first match for the rugby union team.

The Glasgow Warriors will be kicking off their 2022/23 season campaign with a friendly against Worcester Warriors. The match will take place at 7:30pm on Friday 2 September at Caledonian Stadium, the home of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC. This fixture represents the first of the Glasgow Warriors’ two pre-season friendlies.

The last time the two teams faced each other was last September during the 2021/22 pre-season friendlies. This game took place at Sixways Stadium and saw the Warriors triumph with a score of 27-22.

The second rugby fixture will take place on Friday 9 September when the team will face Ulster at Scotstoun Stadium. The two teams previously played here during 2019 when Glasgow beat Ulster in a 36-33 victory. Of the two matches, this is the one that is sure to have fans gripping the edge of their seats, with the Warrior Nation hoping their team can repeat the winning result once more.

Quality opposition to test the Glasgow Warriors

It seems the Managing Director of Glasgow Warriors, Al Kellock, is pleased with the team’s pre-season opponents when he remarked:

“We’re delighted to be taking our first pre-season fixture of the 2022/23 season to Inverness.

“… In terms of our competition in these two pre-season fixtures, Worcester Warriors and Ulster are quality sides for us to test ourselves against ahead of the new season. These matches will be the first games for our new head coach, once they are appointed, to make their mark, and for our fans it will be a first chance to see our new signings in action.”

Centenary celebrations for Highland Rugby

This year’s pre-season matches are about more than just friendly competition and good sportsmanship. Glasgow Warriors’ first match against Worcester Warriors marks a special occasion for Scottish Rugby: the centenary celebrations of Highland Rugby.

Speaking of this momentous occasion, the CEO of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Scot Gardiner, stated

“Everyone at Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club is proud to be playing a part in celebrating the centenary of Highland Rugby and to support the innovative thinking of Glasgow Warriors in taking a home game, indeed a professional fixture on the road, to Inverness.

“… We look forward to giving a real Highland welcome to rugby fans from all over the country, but especially those from Glasgow and Worcester.”
