A chilling attack leaves a man permanently scarred, as his wife admits guilt and claims he had it coming.
Michelle Bird, a 46-year-old first-time offender, attacked her husband Colin Bird in their Glasgow residence located in Baillieston on May 6, 2022. The shocking incident unfolded at the couple’s home and has left a lasting mark on the victim.
Glasgow Sheriff Court learned that Michelle Bird dialed emergency services herself, reporting that she had injured Colin on his upper left arm. Responding officers arrived to find a blood-stained hallway and the couple in the living room. Colin, who had been married to Michelle for four years, was found clutching a blood-soaked towel to his wounded arm.
Despite her husband’s claims of an accident, Michelle Bird admitted to the police: “It was me, I did it.” While under caution, she explained that she had been trying to get help for Colin for two days. Her eventual arrest led her to reveal her thoughts on the situation, stating, “He is a monster; he f****** deserved it.”
Colin received immediate medical attention, with the emergency room staff treating the gash above his elbow. Prosecutor Katie Bell noted that the injury required stitches and would result in permanent scarring.
In court, Michelle Bird pleaded guilty to the severe assault and permanent disfigurement of her husband, an act aggravated by the abuse of a partner or ex-partner. Sheriff Brian Cameron inquired about the “significant background” behind the case.
Defense attorney Gerry Devanney acknowledged the complex history and requested a background report. The court has deferred the sentencing until next month, and Michelle Bird, a service manager, remains out on bail in the meantime.
